Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 Within gardens and springs 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
