Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 "I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you." 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 "And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation." 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said, "You are under a magic spell." 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
