۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 He says, 'Are you looking down?' 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For such a reward should the workers perform. 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
