The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 save those that pray 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Are free of blame, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
