۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 one of them will say, "I had a friend, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 What, do we then not die 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
