۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then he will look and see him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 (Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
