And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 He abandoned his people 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Then bring your book, if ye say sooth. 157 And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants) 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 They used to say: 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 that they shall certainly be succoured, 172 and Our armies shall be the victors. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
