So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 And then drew lots and was of those rejected; 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 So they accepted faith – We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons? 149 Have We created the angels as females before their very eyes? 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 for, verily, neither you [blasphemers] nor the objects of your worship 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 They used to say: 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
