Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 And a fish swallowed him, and he was reproaching himself. 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand or more people. 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 They used to say before: 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 and that, verily, Our hosts - they indeed - would [in the end] be victorious! 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 And watch; they will come to know soon. 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 Peace be upon the Messengers 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
