Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 and sailed away in a laden ship, wherein people cast lots. Because he lost, he was thrown into the water. 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 he would indeed have remained in its belly till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 and caused a gourd tree to grow over him, 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 "There is not one of us who does not have his appointed place," (declare the angels.) 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 And indeed they used to say: 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 So turn (away) from them for a while, 178 And wait, for they will soon see. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 And all praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. 182
