God takes the souls at the time of their death, and that which has not died, in its sleep; He withholds that against which He has decreed death, but looses the other till a stated term. Surely in that are signs for a people who reflect. Or have they taken intercessors apart from God? 42 Have they taken others for intercessors besides God? Say, "Even though they have no power nor understanding?" 43 Say, "Intercession is entirely in the hands of God. He controls the heavens and the earth; you will all return to Him." 44 When one God is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Day of Judgment begin to shrink, but when the idols are mentioned, they rejoice. 45 Say: O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth! Knower of the Invisible and the Visible! Thou wilt judge between Thy slaves concerning that wherein they used to differ. 46 And those who did wrong (the polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah), if they had all that is in earth and therewith as much again, they verily, would offer it to ransom themselves therewith on the Day of Resurrection from the evil torment, and there will become apparent to them from Allah, what they had not been reckoning. 47 Their bad deeds will become public and they will be surrounded by the torment which they had mocked during their worldly life. 48 When hurt toucheth a man he calleth on us, and thereafter, when We have changed it unto a favour from Us, he saith: I have been given it so only by force of my knowledge. Aye! it is a trial, but most of them know not. 49 Those before them also said the same, so their earnings did not benefit them at all. 50 They were afflicted by the terrible result of whatever they gained. Besides this affliction, the unjust among them will also suffer the consequence of their deeds. They will not be able to challenge God. 51 Do they not know that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe. 52
