And whatever affliction befalls you, it is on account of what your hands have wrought, and (yet) He pardons most (of your faults). 30 and you cannot elude Him on earth, and you will have none to protect you from God [in the life to come,] and none to bring you succour. 31 And of His signs are the ships that run on the sea like landmarks; 32 Had He wanted, He could have stopped the wind and let the ships remain motionless on the surface of the sea, in this there is evidence (of the Truth) for all those who are patient and grateful, 33 Or He may destroy them because of that which they have earned, and He may pardon many of them. 34 But let those know, who dispute about Our Signs, that there is for them no way of escape. 35 Now whatever ye have been given is but a passing comfort for the life of the world, and that which Allah hath is better and more lasting for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord, 36 and who shun the more heinous sins and abominations; and who, whenever they are moved to anger, readily forgive; 37 And those who answer the call of their Lord and establish worship, and whose affairs are a matter of counsel, and who spend of what We have bestowed on them, 38 And those who, when great wrong afflicts them, defend themselves. 39 The recompense for evil will be equivalent to the deed. He who pardons (the evil done to him) and reforms himself, will receive his reward from God. God certainly does not love the unjust. 40 And whoever avenges himself after having been wronged - those have not upon them any cause [for blame]. 41 Only those who do injustice to people and commit rebellion on earth for no reason will be questioned. They will suffer a painful torment. 42 whoever is patient and forgiving, acts with great courage and resolution. 43
