As for one who turns away from the remembrance of the Gracious God, We appoint for him a devil, who will become his intimate companion. 36 Satan will prevent them from the right path while they think that they have the right guidance. 37 At length, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says (to his evil companion): "Would that between me and thee were the distance of East and West!" Ah! evil is the companion (indeed)! 38 And it will profit you not today, because ye have done wrong, that ye are in the torment sharers. 39 CANST THOU, perchance, [O Muhammad,] make the deaf hear, or show the right way to the blind or to such as are obviously lost in error? 40 Whether We take thee away, We shall take vengeance upon them, 41 or We shall show you what We have promised them; for surely We have complete power over them. 42 Therefore hold fast to that which has been revealed to you; surely you are on the right path. 43 And most surely it is a reminder for you and your people, and you shall soon be questioned. 44 And ask them – did any of the Noble Messengers We sent before you, appoint any other Gods except the Most Gracious, whom they used to worship? 45
