And whoever is averse to the Remembrance of the Most Gracious, We appoint a devil upon him, who stays with him. 36 whereupon, behold, these [evil impulses] bar all such from the path [of truth,] making them think that they are guided aright! 37 till, when he comes to Us, he says, 'Would there had been between me and thee the distance of the two Easts!' An evil comrade! 38 It will profit you not this Day (O you who turn away from Allah's remembrance and His worship, etc.) as you did wrong, (and) that you will be sharers (you and your Qarin) in the punishment. 39 What! can you then make the deaf to hear or guide the blind and him who is in clear error? 40 But whether We do [or do not] take thee away [ere thy message prevails] - verily, We shall inflict Our retribution on them; 41 or We shall show you what We have promised them; for surely We have complete power over them. 42 So hold thou fast unto that which has been revealed unto thee; surely thou art upon a straight path. 43 And lo! it is in truth a Reminder for thee and for thy folk; and ye will be questioned. 44 Ask those of Our Messengers We sent before thee: Have We appointed, apart from the All-merciful, gods to be served? 45
