And verily We sent Moses with Our revelations unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, and he said: I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds. 46 But when he brought them Our tokens, behold! they laughed at them. 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 But they said: "O sorcerer, call on your Lord for us in accordance with the compact He has made with you. We shall certainly come to guidance." 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, lo! they broke the pledge. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: “My people, do I not have dominion over Egypt, and are these streams not flowing beneath me? Can't you see? 51 Am I better or this contemptible man who is scarcely able to express himself? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 When at length they provoked Us, We exacted retribution from them, and We drowned them all. 55 and We made them a thing past, and We appointed them for an example to later folk. 56
