Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
