A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cool nor good. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 "We are ruined, 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
