Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
