Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
