Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
