Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
