We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 Recall when your Lord said to the angels: "I will indeed bring into being a human being out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud. 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?" 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 Said He, 'Then go thou forth hence; thou art accursed. 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44
