Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
