And indeed We rescued the Descendants of Israel from a disgraceful torture. 30 at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds. 31 and indeed, We chose them knowingly above all other people, 32 And We gave them portents wherein was a clear trial. 33 Verily these! they say: 34 there is nothing beyond our first death; we shall not be raised again. 35 So bring our fathers [back], if what you say is true. 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. 37 And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play, 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 The Day of Decision is the appointed time for all. 40 The Day when no protector can avail his client in aught, and no help can they receive, 41 save those upon whom God will have bestowed His grace and mercy: for, verily, He alone is almighty, a dispenser of grace. 42
