And assuredly We have created man and We know whatsoever his soul whispereth unto him, and We are nigher unto him than his jugular vein. 16 [And so,] whenever the two demands [of his nature] come face to face, contending from the right and from the left, 17 Not a word he uttereth but there is with him a watcher ready. 18 The trance of death will come revealing the truth: that is what you were trying to escape. 19 And the Horn will be blown. That is the Day of [carrying out] the threat. 20 And every soul will come, with it a driver and a witness. 21 'Thou wast heedless of this; therefore We have now removed from thee thy covering, and so thy sight today is piercing.' 22 And his comrade shall say, 'This is what I have, made ready.' 23 (They will be told,) "Throw into hell every persistent disbelievers, 24 "Every obstructor of good, transgressor, and the sceptic, 25 who set up with God another god; therefore, you twain, cast him into the terrible chastisement.' 26 ۞ Man's other self' will say: "O our Sustainer! It was not I that led his conscious mind into evil [nay,] but it had gone far astray [of its own accord]! 27 Allah will say: wrangle not in My presence, and I had already proferred unto you the threat. 28 The sentence that cometh from Me cannot be changed, and I am in no wise a tyrant unto the slaves. 29
