Hizb 53
< random >
Have you heard the story of Abraham's honoured guests? 24 When those [heavenly messengers] came unto him and bade him peace, he answered, "[And upon you be] peace!" - [saying to himself,] "They are strangers." 25 So he turned to his household and brought a fattened calf. 26 He placed it before them. Then he said, "Why are you not eating?" 27 Then he conceived a fear about them, and they said: 'Have no fear', and gave him the glad tidings that he was to have a knowledgeable son. 28 His wife came forward, crying and beating her face, saying, "I am an old barren woman!" 29 They answered: "Thus has thy Sustainer decreed; and verily, He alone is truly wise, all-knowing!" 30 ۞ Said he, 'And what is your business, envoys?' 31 They replied: 'We are sent to a sinful nation, 32 to let loose upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement, 33 marked with thy Lord for the prodigal. 34 Then We evacuated there from all the believers 35 And We found not therein more than one house of the Muslims. 36 And We kept a sign remaining in it, for those who fear the painful punishment. 37 And in Moosa, when We sent him with a clear proof towards Firaun. 38 But he turned his back, he and his courtiers, and said, "This is a sorcerer or a madman." 39 Then We seized him and his army and cast them all into the sea: he himself [Pharaoh] was to blame. 40 In 'Ad (also is a sign), when We sent a blasting wind against them, 41 It did not leave aught on which it blew, but it made it like ashes. 42 And in (the tribe of) Thamud (there is a portent) when it was told them: Take your ease awhile. 43 Then they disdained the command of their Lord; wherefore the bolt laid hold of them even while they looked on. 44 So they were neither able to stand up, nor were they able to take revenge. 45 (So were) the people of Nuh (Noah) before them. Verily, they were a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). 46

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
