The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 and by the Book in lines 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and the sea that is full 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
