The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the mount. 1 And the Book written 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
