The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount, 1 and the Book inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 By the House Frequented. 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And the swollen sea 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
