The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day in splendour 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
