The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 By the book inscribed. 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 And the House frequented, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
