So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time? 30 Say (unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant. 31 Or, do their intellects order them to do this? Or, are they an insolent people? 32 What! They say, “He has invented the Qur'an”? Rather they do not have faith. 33 But then, [if they deem it the work of a mere mortal,] let them produce another discourse like it - if what they say be true! 34 [Or do they deny the existence of God?] Have they themselves been created without anything [that might have caused their creation]? or were they, perchance, their own creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, they have no firm belief. 36 Are with them the treasures of thy Lord! or are they the dispensers? 37 Do they have a ladder (by which they can climb up to the heavens) and listen (to the angels) and come back to the rest of the people with clear authority? 38 Or, has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt? 40 Or is it that they have access to (the Truths in) the realm beyond sense-perception which they are writing down? 41 Or, do they desire to outwit? The unbelievers are the outwitted. 42 Or have they a god other than Allah? Exalted is Allah far above the things they associate with Him! 43 If they should see a segment falling from the sky, they would say: "It is only a massive cloud." 44 So leave them till they encounter their Day in which they shall be thunderstruck. 45 and when their evil plans will be of no benefit to them nor will they be helped. 46 And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know. 47 Wait patiently for the command of your Lord. We are watching over you. Glorify your Lord when you rise during the night 48 And for part of the night also praise thou Him,- and at the retreat of the stars! 49
