Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
