▼ 52 The Mountain

Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed. 29 Or do they say: A poet, we wait for him the evil accidents of time. 30 Tell them: “Wait; I too am waiting with you.” 31 Enjoin them their understandings to this? or are they a people conumacious? 32 Or say they: he hath fabricated it: aye they will not believe. 33 Let them bring a discourse like thereunto, if they say sooth. 34 Or were they created of themselves? Or are they the creators? 35 Have they created the heavens and the earth? In fact, they have no strong faith. 36 Or are the Treasures of thy Lord with them, or are they the managers (of affairs)? 37 Or, do they have a ladder on which they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority. 38 Or has He (Allah) only daughters and you have sons? 39 Or is it that you ask of them any recompense so that they should fear to be weighed down under the burden of debt? 40 Or is the hidden with them, by which they pass judgements? 41 Seek they to lay a plot? Then those who disbelieve it is they who shall be plotted against. 42 Do they have another god besides God? God is too exalted to be considered equal to the idols. 43 And if they should see a portion of the heaven coming down, they would say: Piled up clouds. 44 so leave them alone till they face the Day on which they will be struck dumb, 45 when their stratagem shall be of no avail to them, nor shall they be succoured. 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 And be thou patient under the judgment of thy Lord; surely thou art before Our eyes. And proclaim the praise of thy Lord when thou arisest, 48 and glorify Him after the setting of the stars. 49

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
