The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
