The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
