The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 and taught to him 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
