The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
