In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
