The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
