The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
