The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ Before them Noah's people also gave the lie (to his Message). They rejected Our servant as a liar, saying: “He is a madman”; and he was rebuffed. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
