The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 And We sent against them a howling wind in a Day of continuous of ill fortune 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
