The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, "He is a madman" and rebuffed him. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
