The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(On the day) when the sun is made to cease shining, 1 And when the stars shall fall; 2 when the mountains shall be set moving, 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 souls are reunited with their bodies, 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 And when the heaven is torn away. 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 And Paradise brought near, 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 Who move straight and stop. 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 And by oath of the morning when it takes birth. 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 with strength endowed, secure with Him who in almightiness is enthroned 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 (O people of Makkah), your companion is not mad; 22 And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. 23 he is not niggardly of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 And you do not please except that Allah please, the Lord of the worlds. 29
