The tribe of Thamud also rejected Our warnings: 23 they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. 24 Has the [Divine] message been revealed to him alone of all of us? No, he is a boastful liar." 25 They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar. 26 For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience! 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them; every share of the water shall be regulated. 28 Then they called their comrade, and he took in hand, and hamstrung her. 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 For We sent against them a single Mighty Blast, and they became like the dry stubble used by one who pens cattle. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 32 The people of Lot cried lies to the warnings. 33 Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 and even demanded that he give up his guests [to them]: whereupon We deprived them of their sight [and thus told them, as it were]: "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 37 And indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow: 38 'Now, taste My punishment and My warnings' 39 We have made it easy indeed to learn lessons from the Quran.
