(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings 23 they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. 24 "Is it that the Reminder is sent to him [Prophet Salih (Saleh)] alone from among us? Nay, he is an insolent liar!" 25 Tomorrow they will come to know, who is the liar, the insolent one! 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 30 Then We sent against them one Shout and they became like the trampled twigs of the (sheep) penbuilder. 31 Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to learn lessons from. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 32 The people of Lut treated the warning. as a lie. 33 We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by early Dawn,- 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. 36 Even his guests they had solicited of him; so We obliterated their eyes, saying, 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 So taste My punishment and warning. 39 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 40
