The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Merciful 1 It is He Who has taught the Qur'an. 2 Created man, 3 Taught him the mode of expression. 4 The sun and the moon follow a reckoning, 5 And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate. 6 He raised the sky and set the Balance 7 In order that you may not corrupt the balance. 8 But observe the measure strictly, nor fall short thereof. 9 And He appointed the earth for the creatures. 10 On it are fruits and palm-trees with sheathed clusters [of dates], 11 grain with its husk and aromatic herbs. 12 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 13 He created man from clay like that of earthenware. 14 and has created the jinn from the flame of fire. 15 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie 16 (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter). 17 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 18 He has made the two oceans meet each other, 19 Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses. 20 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 21 Pearls and corals come forth from both of them. 22 Which of the wonders of your Lord's power will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 23 His are the lofty ships, that rear aloft on the sea like mountains. 24 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 25
