The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
78 verses, revealed in Medina after Thunder (Al-Ra'ad) before The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Merciful 1 Hath taught the Qur'an. 2 He created man 3 Taught him the mode of expression. 4 The sun and the moon move according to a fixed reckoning; 5 And the grasses and the trees bow (to Him) in adoration. 6 And the heaven He has raised high, and He has set up the Balance. 7 In order that you may not corrupt the balance. 8 and weigh with justice, and skimp not in the Balance.) 9 And He appointed the earth for the creatures. 10 Therein are fruit and palm-trees with their dates in sheaths, 11 and grain in the blade, and fragrant herbs. 12 So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny? 13 He created man of clay like the potter's, 14 and He created the jinns from a flame of fire. 15 Which favors of your Lord will you both belie? 16 He is the Lord of the two easts and the Lord of the two wests. 17 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 18 He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together: 19 [yet] between them is a barrier which they may not transgress. 20 Which favors of your Lord will you both belie? 21 From the two oceans comes pearls and coral. 22 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 23 Also, His are the ships that run, raised up like mountains upon the sea. 24 Which of the favours of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 25

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. (3) وقف جائز مع تساوي أولوية الوقف والوصل، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال النصف للنصف. (4) وقف جائز مع الوصل أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلث. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
