The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ THE MOST GRACIOUS 1 has taught the Qur'an, 2 He created man 3 He has imparted unto him articulate thought and speech. 4 The sun and moon revolve to a computation; 5 and the stars and the trees all prostrate themselves, 6 And the heaven, He raised it high, and He made the balance 7 That ye exceed not the measure, 8 And observe the weight with equity, and make not deficient the balance. 9 He set down the earth for the creation. 10 Therein are fruits, date-palms producing sheathed fruit-stalks (enclosing dates). 11 And grain covered with husk, and fragrant flowers. 12 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 13 He created man of clay like the potter's, 14 And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke: 15 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 16 (He is) Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests: 17 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 18 He has given freedom to the two great bodies of water, so that they might meet: 19 between them a barrier they do not overpass. 20 Which of the wonders of your Lord will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 21 From these seas come forth pearls and coral. 22 Which, of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 23 By His command, the ships with raised masts sail on the sea like mountains. 24 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 25
