The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
